30 Day Give: Day 1

We started off the 30 Day Giving Challenge rather quietly.

My favorite part about that sentence – WE! My girl is TOTALLY invested this year. “Mom, what’s our give going to be tomorrow? What are we doing Thursday?”

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

On day one, we packaged a school spirit wear shirt that no longer fit my girl in a nice bag and dropped it at the neighbor’s house. They have three girls younger that Maggie who will get much use out of it I’m sure! School spirit wear is so expensive that I wanted to make sure it went to a child who actually attends the same school!

We have a couple of tentative ideas for Day Two. You’ll have to pop back to see what we do.

Are you participating in the 30 Day Giving Challenge?

30 Day Giving Challenge 2011

It’s that time again! It’s time for the 30-Day Giving Challenge!!!

I am so excited!

The House of Hills LOVED participating in the 30-Day Giving Challenge last year. Our biggest discovery was that you don’t have to spend money to give. Giving of time and help is often even more appreciated than a tangible gift.

We’ve already begun our list of things to do this year including another Operation Christmas Child Birthday party – this time celebrating my 40th. Our annual beach vacation falls during the give so I’m sure we’ll be doing some cousin giving as well.

Starting today, November 1st, we at the House of Hills will plan to give in some way each day. Some days will be harder than others. Many of our gives will involve food since that is what comes naturally to us. However we do it, we plan to give each and every day for the month of November.

And, we challenge you to do the same! You can do it!! Yes, you can.

Check out the 30 Day Giving Challenge page and find out the details. There are even link-ups for bloggers each Tuesday.

If you can’t give every day of the month, calendar a few days to give. Write them down and then work as a family to make them happen. It can be a simple as making a card for Grandma to making some cookies for the neighbors.

I’d love to hear about ways that you have given to others in the past. We’ve got 30 days to fill here!

I’m turning 40! Let’s Party!

Yes, it’s true…

I’m turning 40! And, soon!

So, it’s time to get ready to party. Whoop!

I’m having another Operation Christmas Child Birthday Party just like last year.

This year’s goal is 120 boxes – 3 for every year that I’ve been alive.

Do you think we can do it? We did 89 last year. I think we can do 120! I do!

We’ve moved the party to my office since it won’t fit in our little cottage. We’re going to have yummy food to eat and cupcakes to share.

And we’re going to have boxes…. lots of boxes!

Boxes that my family and friends can fill with amazing goodies to send somewhere far away to bless a child with Christmas. Christmas in a box. For most, this will be the first (and possibly only) Christmas gift they will ever receive. How blessed are we to be able to give them that?

I’m getting so excited! I can’t wait!

If you’re in the North Atlanta area, feel free to come on by. I’d love to meet you!

If you’re not able to come to my party, you can still pack an Operation Christmas Child shoe box with your family. They’ve made it so easy. Check out the Operation Christmas Child site for more details.

Pack a box and party with me!

Kids 4 MO : House of Hills

Have you read about Kids4MO and the Boxes of Hope? No? Well, you should!

This amazing organization is gathering boxes from around the country for children in Joplin, MO who lost EVERYTHING in the recent tornadoes. Similar to Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes, these Boxes of Hope will bring love and grace to children who seriously need it.

The House of Hills is privileged to be a drop off location for Kids4MO. We will be collecting boxes on Saturday, June 25th to be mailed the next Monday. We would love to mail yours in our box. If you are in the North Metro Atlanta area, feel free to drop off your box with three dollars for shipping and we’ll get it to Joplin for you. Message me for our exact location.

The Princess and I will be packing boxes as will our entire Small Group. We’re so excited to SERVE those who need a little hope in their lives right now.

We hope you’ll join us.

Tornado Relief

I don’t know about you, but the pictures overwhelm me. The pictures of destruction, damage, and things just being plain gone. Like once there was a building. Now there’s not.

It reminds me of the damage Hurricane Andrew did in Florida way back when. I was in college and went on a spring mission trip. So, that would be early nineties. We stopped at McDonald’s and then two hours later we were in a different country. At least we felt like that. It was so devastated. Horrifically so. That’s what the pictures remind me of. Complete devastation.

I need to help. I SERIOUSLY need to help. So, I’ve been researching, and I’ve found several avenues that I’m exploring. I wanted to share them with you. Just in case you, like me, are feeling a burning need to help.

North Point Ministries: My church, North Point Community Church, and all its campuses will be collecting gift cards for the next two Sundays from Target, Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot. If you want to give me some, I’ll take them in. These will be sent directly to those impacted.

Atlanta Braves: I read a press release that the Atlanta Braves will be collecting supplies to give to the Salvation Army. Drop off spots include the Atlanta area Express Oil Changes. They shared a list of most needed supplies that includes baby items, non-perishable food, and blankets.

Cass Brannan at Calvary Baptist Church: I met Cass at the Orange Conference, and his home church is right in the heart of the destruction, but thankfully intact. His church has offered to assist by providing childcare for volunteers. I will be sending them some videos and other things to help keep kids busy!

Boxes of Hope: Some amazing person is organizing a campaign for boxes for children impacted by the tornado. Similar to Operation Christmas Child boxes, these boxes will be given to families affected by the storms. The Princess and I will be working on some of these this afternoon.

Those are just a few of the ways I’ve found to help. There are MANY MANY more. And, if you are near an area that was affected, you can grab a broom and go help that way. I do recommend finding an organization that has people on the ground and systems in place.

I would love to know of ways that you’ve found to help those in need.
